Intentionally pulling the opponent into your guard from standing.
The guard pull is a deliberate transition from standing to a seated or supine guard position. You grip the collar and sleeve (gi) or collar tie and wrist (no-gi), sit down, and immediately establish your preferred guard — closed guard, De La Riva, or butterfly. Guard pulling is a strategic choice in BJJ competition, especially for athletes with a strong guard game. A good guard pull should be active and purposeful, immediately creating threats rather than just sitting to the floor.
