Interactive 3D Preview — drag to orbit

A choke from closed guard that traps the opponent’s head and arm between the legs.

The triangle choke (sankaku jime) traps one of your opponent's arms and their neck inside a figure-four leg configuration. By squeezing your thighs and pulling their head down, you compress the carotid arteries on both sides. The key details are cutting an angle to tighten the choke, locking the triangle high on the neck, and controlling their posture so they cannot stack or escape.

Key points

  • Control posture before throwing the legs
  • Create an angle before locking the figure-four
  • Clamp the knees and control the head to finish

Common mistakes

  • Attacking with no angle
  • Locking the legs loosely
  • Ignoring posture control before the setup

Common reactions

  • Opponent postures up hard
  • Opponent stacks to reduce angle
