A safe method for returning to standing while maintaining a defensive frame.
The technical stand-up is a method of getting to your feet safely from a seated or grounded position. You post one hand behind you, kick the same-side leg forward as a frame, and stand up in base while keeping your eyes and frame toward the opponent. It is an essential self-defense and competition technique because it allows you to choose when to engage on the ground versus standing. Every warm-up should include technical stand-up reps — it is as fundamental as the hip escape.
