Heel Hook

A devastating rotational knee attack gripping the heel and twisting.

The heel hook controls the opponent's heel and applies a twisting force that attacks the ligaments of the knee (ACL, MCL, LCL). Inside heel hooks rotate inward and are more dangerous; outside heel hooks rotate outward. Heel hooks are the most powerful submissions in no-gi grappling and have become central to modern competition through the Danaher Death Squad system. They require responsible training partners and careful control because injuries can occur before pain is felt.
