Baseball Bat Choke

submissionintermediateGi Only

A deceptive choke using a split grip on the collar, often finished during a pass.

The baseball bat choke gets its name from the split grip on the collar — one hand palm up, one palm down, like gripping a bat. You set the grips from knee on belly or top half guard, then spin through to north-south to tighten the choke. It's extremely sneaky because the grips look passive until you rotate and the choke suddenly locks on. A favorite of competitors who use knee on belly transitions aggressively.
